Yorkshire and the Humber Region is made up of 28 local parties, representing some 54 parliamentary seats across 15 local authorities.
We are home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites - Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal in North Yorkshire as well as the industrial setting of Saltaire & Salts Mill. Flamborough Head has the biggest underwater chalk reef in Europe, extending underwater for up to 6km out to sea, while The Deep in Hull is home to the worlds first submarium. Our region covers a large geographical area and our landscape is as diverse as the people who live here.
What do we stand for?
We believe that Yorkshire and the Humber has much to offer. We have fabulous countryside and coastlines. We are world renowned producers of food, we are home to world leading businesses and have a proud industrial heritage. We are the home of both thriving urban centres and rural villages a like.
The opening section of our constitution confirms some of our core beliefs of liberty, equality and community.
"The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full. We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives."
As a Regional party we seek to unite our parish, metropolitan district and county Councillors across the region in this joint aim. The region seeks to share best practice, support training and ultimately increase the number of elected Liberal Democrats in our Region.
