Police losing our respect?

6.19.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 30th Aug 2008

NORTH Yorkshire Police have reminded us this year that they are our police service, not our police force - that they are here to serve our community.

On November 11 the district will remember those who have served this community with the greatest of sacrifices by giving up their lives.

We will hold parades and acts of remembrance throughout the district to show our respect and thanks for them.

For the first time this year year, the police have told us that they are unwilling, unable, to manage the traffic for Remembrance Sunday.

It beggars belief quite what North Yorkshire Police believe the word 'service' means.

We are grateful every day for the work of our armed forces throughout the world. They have our respect because they have earned it.

Respect for the police is an essential quality for policing to be successful in the community. Respect has to be earned.

Are our police earning this respect by their actions?
