Councillor Stewart Golton (Lib Dem, Rothwell) has condemned a further delaying of the confirmation of the HS2 route decision, leaving residents in Woodlesford uncertain about the future.
The £50 billion project has caused huge upset amongst residents living alongside the initially proposed route, especially given the refusal so far to discuss compensation with affected residents.
The government has delayed its decision on exactly where the route will go until autumn this year. This is not the first time the verdict on the route has been postponed, and residents are getting increasingly frustrated over the amount of time it is taking to come to a decision.
HS2 Ltd recently promised to look again at the route to see whether it could be diverted away from Woodlesford.
Cllr Stewart Golton: "HS2 Ltd promised us a decision in autumn 2015, then in December they said it would be spring, and now we have been told that we will have to wait again until this autumn."
"Residents have now spent years in limbo, blighted by the HS2 project."
"It has to be asked why this further delay is necessary and if they are seriously still studying the route now, then they had better refer to the flooding threat that became a reality this Christmas."
